I have no positions in either company but find this of interest

The Company is the exclusive merchandise licensing agent representing Nintendo characters worldwide, except in Japan.

MONTREAL, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Toys International, Inc. (Nasdaq: GRIN - news) today announced that it has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Nintendo Co. Ltd. to manufacture and distribute a line of products in Canada based on the popular Gameboy game and television series, Pokemon.

looks like Nintendo has liscencing rights directly from Japan..Oh well...both companies will benefit acordingly..

Howard,

On August 3rd there was a rumor on SI that GRIN would receive a license to distribute some sort of Pokemon merchandise. I asked Ron Goldenberg (CEO of Grand Toys) the following question:

There is a fairly widespread rumor that Grand Toys is close to signing a deal to produce various Pokemon items, including kites, balls and stationery. Is there any truth to this rumor? If so, when do you anticipate closing one or more of these Pokemon deals?

I received this reply from Mr. Goldenberg (he used all caps, not me):

THE DEALS HAVE ALL BEEN NEGOTIATED WITH THE LICENSOR AND WE HAVE THE CONTRACTS TO SIGN. WHEN WE SIGN THEY SIGN AND THEY CASH OUR CHEQUE IT IS THEN OFFICIAL.

Then on August 4th, GRIN issued the following PR:

biz.yahoo.com

Either GRIN's deal is legitimate, or Mr. Goldenberg is trying to perpetrate an extremely public and ballsy scam.

I'm still trying to find the reference to GRIN in Mr. Kahn's interview. I don't doubt it's there, I just haven't found it yet. Either way, I'm pretty certain Grand Toys does have a legitimate Pokemon licensing agreement.

I will try to contact Nintendo, rather than KIDE.

Thanks for the heads up.

Kevin
