Dear E,

In no way did I mean to suggest that discussion of the unhappiness of all of us is "prurient"! All I meant was that simple speculation of "Was he or wasn't he" could be considered prurient in the way that traffic slows down on a highway to gape at a particularly grisly automobile accident.

People who want to talk about the tragedy, note that they did try to help a troubled soul who rejected their help, or express their sorrow that it was not the sick joke it seemed to them at the time could not be described as prurient.

If the long-time respected poster who left SI because he was disturbed at some of the reactions is who I think it and if you are in touch with him, could you let him know that despite the joking on the public thread, there were many PMs looking to see if he was really in trouble and trying to help and that he rejected them?

Warm regards.
