Ian, I think that the link I posted on Birinyi was actually written early in the year.

Message 10968029

Read the last couple of paragraphs. Sounds to me that it was a "forecast" for 1999 & therefore was probably written in the first quarter of the year (or earlier?).

The "date" of September at the top of the link is therefore misleading.

Wally

Ian,

Two reasons. Refer to Wally's Post 7781, where he writes that he discovered after posting the "recent" Bloomberg piece that it was actually "written near the beginning of 1999". This is based on a quote of Birinyi's late in the article. If you're confused as to why a recent Bloomberg posting would have this apparently dated material, then that makes two of us.

Second, in the Bottom Line Personal article, there are recent stock prices noted, which I left out. AOL was noted to be at 88 and something. I believe this would put the timing of Birinyi's writing the article at Late-July or Early-August. To me there are other cues in his writing that suggest it is of recent issue.
