I sincerely disagree.

With your approach they would start marketing when they have oversupply.

Hell they should try marketing the hell out of the K6-2's that they have in excess inventory and see how many more dollars they can ship with every part.

They need something along the snail ad campaign that Apple pulled off against PII machines a year or so ago.

That was a BRILLIANT campaign where they took one bytemark test and marketed the hell out of it.

AMD needs to tell the world they are smoking the PIII in performance.

This way they build a brand.

And consumers will be willing to pay a few dollars more for it.

Even a targeted ad campaign with only a $20-30M budget could work wonders.

I agree. To promote the hell of the athlon, when there are not enough to go around, is asking for trouble. People will say AMD can't produce in quantity and will forget that there were only supposed to be 300,000+ in this quarter. I still sense that AMD is doing this rollout at a very slow, deliberate and conservative pace.
