Bearcub, a GIC is a "Guaranteed ( HA HA! ) Investment Certificate". They invest in equity and equity related securities. Some of it goes to debt instruments. Some of it goes to Money Market. Fleckenstein was referring specifically to the risk associated to the investment in debt instruments- although I tend to think he views the whole certificate as laden with risk. I've never invested in one.
