The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Aug. 17, edition that Berkley Petroleum advanced 65 cents to $16.75 yesterday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The Globe's Market Movers column reports that with crude soaring more than 60 per cent this year to trade at almost $22 (U.S.) a barrel, investors are now going bananas for Berkley, a Canadian oil and gas outfit with a natural gas well north Los Angeles. Berkley says it has encountered intense pressure in the well, forcing them to flare off natural gas. "These are very encouraging indications, but that's all it is at this point," says a CIBC Wood Markets analyst. The well is being drilled near another that blew out on Nov. 23, burned out control for two weeks, and then spewed gas into the sky for six months. That led to hopes of a massive pool of gas. Smaller companies that have a stake in the discovery also climbed yesterday. Paramount Resources rose $1.80 to $24.80 (Canadian), Westminster Resources jumped 60 cents to $6.25, Elk Point Resources gained 60 cents to $6.25, Kookaburra Resources added 36 cents to $2.22 and Hilton Petroleum climbed 45 cents to $4.20.

Good morning Bob.

Not that ELK is going to be asking us for opinions but, I'd have to cast my vote against you at this point in time. I'll reconsider my position in a few days perhaps, but at the moment I think we just need to give these guys a chance to do their jobs.

Have a great day.

Later,

EDIT: The number of zones that can be "handled" from one welbore depends upon so many variables (relative zone pressures, absolute pressures, permeabilities, fracturing, fluid contents, etc.) that I can't possibly give you any meaningful answer. But, keep in mind that most wellbores, deep or shallow, encounter multiple horizons during drilling. That's the best I can do, Bob.

EDIT2: I see per S&P's post that they in fact have already regained circulation and are\will be resuming drilling. So, I guess the "vote" can be deferred.
