OT> I still can't find the place on the SI home page where people have to pay to become members. . . I guess they must just let everyone on for free now, but send them an offer by email that lets them sign up for posting privileges. The new site is quite a departure from this type of environment. Hoping to get the beta up this week. . . I am putting little focus on "information" as we can get info from thousands of places. . . and focusing all energy on building a QUALITY community environment. . . We'll be giving those with day jobs the option of staying in touch with the boards via direct email. . . or through familiar newsgroups. . . which both may work behind company firewalls. A spell checker with suggested corrections. . . Providing real-time chat boards incorporated into forums. And Moderators wherever and whenever they are needed within the various trading disciplines. We can look up users online to see who is available and we can send a page. . like a pager. . .to get someone's attention. . or turn it off. . . many many state-of-the-art community oriented features. . . and no stock symbol boards. In practice, some of these new functions may end up helping more than others. .. we will learn as we go. . .but if all goes as planned, we should have the coolest and most high-tech environment anywhere. A hybrid of threaded and linear messaging, with multiple posts on a page, similar to Browsemaster. And some areas even auto-refresh. So there may be a slight learning curve in the beginning, but we will have advantages that were never even considered when message boards were first invented. Rande Is
