Searle, I must say that the XAU reminds me of this Blonde Bombshell that I used to date many years ago. She used to tease me a lot and just when I was on the verge of giving up all hope of getting her she came around to my way of thinking. :)

One item in the article is the notion that primary mine production might decrease - "I wouldn't be surprised to see total mine supply drop by 20-40% within five years"

I think this is highly unlikely. The strong are getting stronger and producing more at a lower cost. The top 5 miners produce 25% of the world's gold, and the top 20 produce over 50%.

I have a project "in progress" that compiles mine production from 1970-to-date. The two key items are 1) world gold production has doubled from 40 million to 80 million ounces and 2) South Africa's shares has gone from 2/3 to under 25%.
