Most people who commit crimes are stupid. This is a fact. Think about that for a moment. Now, every time someone asks "why would so-and-so do such-and-such", just answer "because they were stupid".

Here's how this works:

If UPCA were really a scam, why would Flores claim to have done all his research while in prison -- something that would be easy to verify? "Because he is stupid!"

If UPCA were really a scam, why did Flores apply for a patent on a substance in Plasma Plus that he claimed to have used on patients at the General Hospital of Madrid in Spain -- something that would be easy to disprove? "Because he is stupid!"

See, it's easy. Heck, we can even apply that to our own lives. For example:

Why would anyone invest in a company run by a used car salesman that announces the cure for AIDS discovered by someone who isn't a doctor who did all his research almost a decade ago on just five patients (one being a rat)? "Because they were stupid!"

The point is we all do stupid things. Criminals do lots of stupid things. The people that ply their trade on the BBs trying to separate you from your money are not evil geniuses. So, next time someone tells you something isn't a scam because so-and-so couldn't be that stupid, just tell yourself "yes they could!"
