Thanks for your additions, Penni! I understand, by the way, that I was on the "wrong end", I should have made clearer that I was just referring to the area around the airport. I mentioned that there were many beautiful houses along Monument, and that they seemed well maintained, but I am glad to know that there is a whole sector I simply missed on the other side of town. Perhaps you are right that there is no bitterness, but you do tend to confirm my impression that they are absorbed by memory. I lived on Maryland Avenue in Annapolis for a number of years, well- known for its antique stores, and I can confirm that there is a love of things that show their age which especially prevails in the South. From what I saw of antiquing, it is not necessary that the item had been of excellent quality originally, and whether or not it was, a certain threadbareness, which proved antiquity, was often prized....
