Your claim,"A real-time "operating system" isn't really an operating system at all because it doesn't mediate the use of system resources between competing apps"
is simply not true.

RTOS's are OS's in every sense of the definition. I've been in the business for close to 12 years now. The embedded systems I'm currently involved sport RTOS's which deal with multiple applications, all competing for the same resources.

Your point about how some systems don't require RTOS's are valid. Some don't need any. Some can get by with a simple roll-yer-own. Some don't really need "realtime". The embedded market is quite splintered in this fashion.

Mark,

What does the $95 million cash price MOT is paying for money losing MTWK ($30 million revenue) tell us about the potential value of WIND ?

Is the perceived value to be found in the MTWK engineer teams or MTWK's intellectual property, or did MOT feel they needed to buy them before someone else did ?
