Could you explain what this means since it is entirely incoherent babble.

Sure. I speak babble.

When reading babble one must understand that the sentence is a collection of phrases. These phrases dont actually have to relate to one another but usually they create an approximate image in the writers mind that the reader has to imagine. Very simple really.

They have a very preferential deal in terms of stock options, and it doesn't require them to hook up Long Island to the @Home pipe.
This means that Comcast owns ATHM stock even if they dont use ATHM in Long Island.

"It's not like found money, but it certainly isn't something they are going to walk away from."

This is a little tougher, you have to just get the rough idea. This means that Comcasts ATHM stock was not found lying on the streets and therefore they intend to keep it.

Bottom line: Just because Comcast is not using @home in Long Island does not mean Comcast is dumping @home altogether. The ATHM stock is too valuable to give up.

How that for a babble to english translation?

Note: just because the words are now closer to comprehensable english does not mean they are any more true.
