She also had plastic covers over the lamp shades. Oh God...the lamp shades...yes, those too. I was always in awe of people who had enough room that they were able to have a room that nobody used. Well, don't get me wrong. It had the effect of squenching everyone into the other two thirds of the house. Even my grandfather would only occasionally skulk furtively the short cut through the living room to get from the family room to the dining room, hoping she wouldn't catch him laying profane soles on carpet.
