We have the Grandmother China that we use for Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas and New Year's dinner. For everyday I have Fiesta ware, and very nice stainless that's a copy of Thomas Jefferson's pattern, bought at his estate in the gift shop. I have been thinking about buying silver, but I don't think I will. I just don't want it. And I use Arco Rock glasses, almost unbreakable. My husband breaks things when he washes dishes, after all my good glasswear was broken, I didn't buy any more. As each piece was smashed, I'd tell myself, "it's just a thing, forget about it." My cobalt blue stuff is kept in my room where nobody can touch it but me, I've got potpourri in one bowl, pennies in another, and pretty rocks and shells in another, pencils in the pitcher, paper clips in a box, and so forth.

Oh yes- I was well indoctrinated- I have the regular dishes (which are Franciscan Tulip and are pretty enough to serve as good dishes if we ever needed good dishes) I have my Grandmother's Noritake, my Mother-in-laws Bavarian, and two sets my mother gave me- one was her "very best" Royal Worcester set that was SO good she never used it. It is stacked in my cupboard still in the original plastic sleeves. It is lovely. And of course, there is the Nikko Happy Holidays china (service for 16 with most completer pieces). We have a surfeit of china.

I say,if you really want to have a good time and learn anything about those people, get em drunk and take em to MacDonalds.

Then go for a swim in the skivvies, with all the house and pool lights out; and sleep on the floor in the living room.

Okay?

(I've directed a lot of parties.)
