encoding.com Announces Support To Make Kanakaris Largest Feature-Length Film Content Provider on the Internet Using Windows Media Technologies 4.0
SEATTLE, Aug 17, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) --

encoding.com Offers New Industry Leading
Quality Format for Streaming Media Needs
encoding.com, a creator of digital media business solutions and the leading provider of optimized audio and video encoding services for the Internet, Tuesday announced support for Microsoft Windows Media Technologies 4.0.

encoding.com has fully integrated Windows Media Technologies 4.0 into its patent-pending Optimized Encoding System, continuing to provide a full range of digital media solutions for its clients. The Windows Media platform can create, deliver, and play streaming media files for applications ranging from news and entertainment to e-commerce and corporate training.

encoding.com announced the following today:
Within 30 days of the Microsoft Windows Technologies 4.0 launch, encoding.com will digitize 250 films in this format for a new strategic alliance customer, Kanakaris Communications Inc. (OTC BB: KKRS), an emerging-growth Internet company that recently opened the KKRS.Net Web portal. KKRS.Net is a single consolidated Web channel which offers the Internet's first-ever combination of direct over-the-Internet delivery of movies, books and music.

The site will generate income from pay-per-view movies delivered over the Internet, advertising for its free online movies of the week, sales revenue from each electronic book and music recording sold or rented and sales revenues from Internet lifestyle products. Upon completion of this encoding project, KKRS.Net will be the largest Windows Technologies 4.0 content provider on the Internet for feature-length movies.

Also with this accomplishment, KKRS.Net will become one of the largest Internet content providers for the Microsoft WindowsMedia.com Web site, which is the the fastest-growing audio and video guide on the Internet and listed among the top 50 most visited sites on the Web. In addition to movies, KKRS.net will also offer downloadable music in Windows Media Audio 4.0.

"Having made a commitment to the Microsoft Windows Media platform as a more viable business model, we are thrilled that encoding.com can turn around such an impressive volume of content in this format with speed and superior quality," said Alex Kanakaris, CEO, Kanakaris Communications Inc. "With securing the rights to an additional 400 feature-length films, we look forward to continuing to work closely with encoding.com to get our content on the Internet."

"The Windows Media Technologies 4.0 platform is about enabling new opportunities," said Will Poole, general manager, Marketing and Business Development, Streaming Media Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are excited that encoding.com is using Windows Media Technologies 4.0 to deliver industry-leading streaming media quality for Kanakaris and its other customers."

Windows Media Technologies 4.0 allows companies to offer customers CD-quality audio and video at half the size of other formats, and take advantage of two new features -- improved content piracy protection, and an easy-to-use wizard that sets up viable pay-per-view applications. Other business solutions made possible by this technology include the ability to add audio or video to online training or Web-based communications applications.

"Supporting this latest version of Windows Media Technologies allows us to offer customers like Kanakaris a leading format to meet their streaming media needs," said Martin Tobias, minister of order and reason, encoding.com. "Kanakaris was the first company to offer a download of a movie back in 1995, and we are excited that our collaboration will help to forward the client's innovative vision for direct delivery of interactive content."
