IDT And Northpoint Announce Nationwide DSL Launch to Aid Small and Medium-sized Businesses
HACKENSACK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--IDT Corporation (NASDAQ: IDTC) has announced an agreement with Northpoint Communications to deliver SDSL services to major metropolitan areas nationwide. Already providing SDSL services in the New York-New Jersey area, the two companies have agreed to a major rollout schedule to small and medium-sized businesses across the US by October 1, 1999.
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) uses standard telephone lines to deliver high-speed Internet access more affordably than expensive T1 connections. This is especially welcome news to smaller businesses that desire advanced applications previously available only to larger, T1-equipped companies. Using DSL, customers can realize all the benefits of a dedicated leased line, including instant and unlimited access, at a fraction of the cost. In addition, they can easily migrate to higher bandwidth speeds as their needs mature.

With a potential market well over five million, IDT sees this arena as huge and largely untapped, with only 38,000 to 40,000 DSL lines installed nationally. IDT is well-suited to capture a large segment of this market, with over 700 points of presence. Total revenue for IDT's 1999 fiscal third quarter, which ended April 30, was in excess of $191.8 million dollars.

IDT, a first-tier, facilities-based Internet Services Provider, offers a full suite of Internet services, including Dedicated Access, Colocation, Long Distance, Web Design and Hosting, and Dial-Up Access. A company known for innovation, IDT recently introduced the industry's first Spanish-language web browser for the Internet.

Northpoint Communications is a national provider of high-speed, local data network services. The company markets its network and data transport services to ISPs, broadband service providers, and local and long-distance companies. For more information, visit their web site at www.northpoint.com.

According to IDT Vice President of Sales Gene Corrado, the relationship between the two companies has been a good one: "Northpoint is the kind of innovative, forward-looking company we have always worked well with. Their response to all of our inquiries has been immediate and helpful." Adds Senior VP Michael Fischberger, "We look forward to a long and satisfying relationship with Northpoint, and to providing our customers with top-quality service and products."
