Analysis of API results is the usual simplistic stupidity. Imports of gasoline jumped substantially last week, especially in PADD5 in response to west coast refinery problems and accounted for a great deal of the difference between estimate and actual. That, combined with slightly higher refinery throughput, meant that there was little change in demand. You never hear a word about the anomolies that are introduced when a country imports 10MMBD of crude and finished product DAILY. Has anyone ever heard of tanker schedules? One or two extra tankers reach U.S. ports and the usual suspects will be yakking from the floor of the NYMEX...."hmmmm....looks like summer driving is down".
