Agree. Gold is priced in $US, so one would expect an inverse relationship. What I find interesting is the correlation isn't perfect (R=1), so often there is a time lag. The $US started running up in mid-95, but gold did not peak until early-96. On the other hand the dollar peak last August was exactly the same time as the gold low. They are tracking each other very well recently.
