though some might offer Vixel and ZOOX as competitors, the fact is NO one has the essential feature sets (such as dynamic scalability, cross-fabric zoning and looplet trunking) that BRCD does, so the short easy answer is no.

And with 80% share across all market levels based on award winning Silkworm 1000 series, the recent introduction of the reduced-cost (2 ASIC) advanced-featured Silkworm 2000s ensures that competition remains nominal.

Brocade is the SAN Gorilla.

Martin,

<<Regarding the area of SAN, what can be said regarding Brocade (BRCD) and their current products, architecture, and market position? Are there any competitors on the horizon?>>

A few months ago on this thread GG was asked for his opinion of SANs and Fiber Channel. He is not smitten with them and does not consider them to be ascendant technologies. I believe the closest competitor to Brocade is Ancor (ANCR), whom SUNW selected two months ago as their supplier of SAN switches. The Brocade thread on SI is rarely active, but the Ancor thread might be another forum for your questions.
