Don't you have to learn some sort of extension mechanism for any application if you want more than the included functionality? :-) The nice thing about Python and Perl is that they are both cross-platform and pretty much the standard for the Web.

I guess I was rebooting the NT machines I administered about once every week or two. Since they were used as workstations, this was an acceptable level of stability. I agree that the stock NT 4.0 is more stable than the media portrays. My biggest complaint about NT was the lack of really flexible and powerful remote administration tools. The provided tools are nice as long as you are trying to do somethings that the author of the tool has already thought of, but try to go beyond that, and you can't beat the power of Perl or bash and a telnet/ssh session.
