Excite At Home Introduces Software, Services for Set-Top Boxes
Redwood City, California, Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Excite At Home Corp., a high-speed Internet access provider, outlined the services and programs it will make available on AT&T Corp. and other cable partners' set-top boxes.

The new set-top digital devices will be used to carry television programming and to link users to the Internet. AT&T said it will consider using Excite At Home's computer network and data centers to support the interactive television services it is developing.

Excite At Home, whose biggest shareholder is No. 1 U.S. phone company AT&T, said it will provide e-mail over TV displays; services to store content and monitor the computer network; services for delivering content like chat, classifieds and auctions and interactive advertising services.

These services will be available to cable company partners this year so they can include them in their set-top boxes. The AT&T set-top boxes and accompanying services will be available to consumers in the third quarter next year, said Leo Hindery, Chief Executive of AT&T Broadband and Internet Services, in an interview with CNN.

New York-based AT&T owns 26 percent of Redwood City, California-based Excite At Home and holds a 58 percent voting stake.
