Listen to the full call and you will hear a congratulations ... the reaction can be summed up with the What's News summary on the front page of the WSJ:

Applied Materials posted a more than fivefold profit increase for the third quarter, easily topping estimates. But the company's orders fell short of some analysts' hopes.

I still thought it was a poor call. They did an awful job summarizing the environment. Clearly, there are some company-specific issues at work here. Not the least of which is that, by virtue of their size, they can not grow a whole hell of a lot faster than the market without scaring the poop out of the IC companies themselves ...
