I guess, I am not entirely clear on what VRSN's role would be in the services delivered using digital certificates, and whether the statements in the original article undercut that role.

On the face of the statement in the article, it seemed to me that banks would not need VRSN technology to deliver secure/authenticated services.

Welll, I will comment if it becomes clear in my mind in due course.
