He could exercise today, buy why would he want to do it now when he can wait? Even though it looks like the stock will not reopen before Friday, it could. If it starts trading, he can sell his puts in the market place. On the off chance some startling news comes out pushing the stock price above his strike price after he had exercised the puts, he could lose more than the amount he invested originally. Of course, he will have to exercise them on expiration or the puts will go out worthless.
