Morning Searle, sure enjoying that intelligence site you turned me on to. I have a fundamental question for anyone interested.
Last week the population of India topped 1 billion. I believe the newscast stated 60 million people are born each year.
Question: Is there a custom of giving gold to newborn children as gifts?
I'm wondering what amount of gold could be expected to be absorbed by this additional population each year. If the figure was as high as 1/2 ounce that would be a lot of demand. ( I would expect that at the least, half of newborns are female and it is rare to see young girls without some gold adornment (gold ear rings etc.) at least here in Canada
