I don't disagree with your statement, if it were indeed to just install existing Linux distributions. My incredulity was relative to the need for Dell to continually support new hardware. I don't think they are going to engineer new boxes, or sell older designs just to support Linux. They would need to ensure that Linux runs on their newest (i.e. profitable) hardware.

My chuckle was just a reaction to the statement itself, apropos of nothing at all. It just seems like I've heard it a few too many times - including a project I'm moonlighting on right now at my old job. New, young idealistic coders come in and get a little experience and some success, and then think they can change the world...
