This makes sense:
<<As we have noted several times, we monitor a small list of 18 stocks that we use as bell weather issues to help us detect emerging trends. There is nothing magic about our selection of stocks, only that they measure a broad range of sectors and economic variables. Last night's review continued to show that almost all of them are displaying negative patterns with lower lows and lower highs. The only real surprise has been Intel that continues to soar. Like the market, we are seeing some very interesting possibilities, with some key stocks reaching a fulcrum point that means that either the rally is over, or that a reversal to a new bullish pattern has occurred. If you are interested in following these, let me list some of the key levels that would indicate a much more positive potential than we had expected. With our market expectations, we expect almost all of these stocks to bump their head on the current resistance levels listed, and to turn back southward. Here they are: If Dell should move above 45 today on all the excited analysts upgrades, it would be very positive for this laggard of recent months. International Paper moving above 57 would be a sign that the recent cyclical rally is more genuine than we expect. If Cisco Systems, a strong stock that has rested recently even with good earnings, moves above 67 it would mean this strong stock and grouping is still carrying the market. The financial group has been slashed and burned, but if Citigroup can move above 51 it would surprise us, but would be a signal that interest rates are not as burdensome as we expect. And then there is Merrill Lynch. The stock looks like it is about to plunge, but takeover rumors have resuscitated it, BUT even with all this temporary euphoria the stock has not been able to break above 81. Until it does, this stock is still in a very weak position, but if it moves above we will be astounded, and IMPRESSED. Lastly there is America On-Line. The stock has been weak along with the rest of the Internet stocks, but if it is able to penetrate the 100 level, that could mean another period of euphoria. >>
