K --- MUEI was up nicely today too... Only this one looks like a POS. I think MC has been quiet and many are beginning to wonder how long until #2 belongs to someone else also. The only salvation is a positive EPS... with a big surprise. In reality it looks more like the tax writeoff of the decade...

K -
re: "Well since CPQ used to be number 1, I'd say that we are definitely taking share from them."

I am actually a little surprised that Merideth said this - not only because of the juvenile tone but because it is not true, and Merideth should know the numbers as well as anyone.

CPQ actually gained more than 2 points of share in the US market in 2Q99, so they could not have lost share to DELL - they didn't lose share to ANYONE. They lost money, but that's another story...

Admittedly the DELL execs have a right to strut a little after their great quarter. But in the past they have not seen the need to falsify the record or make empty boasts. This concerns me a little. I saw some of the same cocky attitude at the annual stockholders meeting and I didn't like it there either. It reminded me too much of EP and EM strutting around in spring of '97 just before they stepped in the tar pits.
