Re: Once the consumer has tried it, at the 9.95 discount per month, then the cable company will remove the discount and hope that the consumer believes he needs the speed more than the AOL.

That is very possible and I can't add to what you've said because I've not researched it yet. I do have a question now that you bring this to light though, why do they only mention AOL by name as the bring along?

Why didn't they just say," we will pay your present ISP connection charges until the year 2000"?

Or is maybe AOL's content and subscriber base the big draw from all directions including TCI's. If that is the case I can't see TCI taking hooked AOL customers and weaning them onto ........something else. It really is not going to be that easy especially because AOL is offering high speed connections as well as including anywhere anytime wireless Internet connections this fall.

If it were that easy to take away customers then AOL would not allow TCI to access it's customer base just as AOL will not allow MSFT to access it's IQC IM base.

MSFT's answer is to publish it's IM source code and make it available free. Will TCI make its cable connection free using the same rational?

Something to ponder.
