CAN WEST PREPARES FOR PRODUCTION TEST Venadillo-1 Well, Lagunillas Block, Colombia August 31, 1999 Trading Symbol: CWI The Company is pleased to announce that production testing of the Venadillo-1 exploratory well is scheduled to begin this week once the demobilization of the drilling rig from the site is complete. The Company will production test several sandstone reservoirs in the Doima formation. The Venadillo-1 well reached total depth at 3,314 feet after setting intermediate 7-inch casing to 3,010 feet. The majority of the section below the casing displayed oil and gas shows while drilling, with oil to the surface and a continuous gas flare. The well has been completed with a gravel-packed, 5-inch slotted liner. The top of the liner is set at 2899 feet and the slotted joints total approximately 135 feet over the reservoirs to be production tested. The well currently has a tubing head pressure of 650 psi, indicating good reservoir conditions. According to log interpretation and results encountered while drilling, 3 zones have been identified that are most likely to produce hydrocarbons in commercial quantities: 3015-3027 feet Probable gas zone 3130-3152 feet Probable oil and gas zone 3136-40, 3145-50, 3207-42 Probable oil zone Management will report reserve numbers based upon the results of the production tests.
