Cabinet clears the way for Hitachi's new VHS player video recorders

JAPAN — The government has paved the way for the July release of Hitachi's new VHS video deck, which has sparked an authorship controversy. The new system converts analog signals to digital for consistently clear playback at every viewing, something which has aroused the concern of authorship groups.

The Japan cabinet solved the problem by ordering digital video decks makers to distribute a portion of the proceeds to appropriate parties.
