ITG (GlobalWave Partner) Involved In Takover Talks... COMPANIES & FINANCE: UK: Takeover talks push ITG shares up 21% NEWS DIGEST: 99% match; Financial Times ; 19-Aug-1999 01:41:37 am ; 131 words Shares in Internet Technology Group jumped 21 per cent after the internet service provider confirmed it was in talks that could lead to an offer for the company. The shares rose 34 1/2p to 201p, valuing ITG at about œ96m. Tim Steer, analyst at Merrill Lynch, said the company had a good telecommunications infrastructure that was capable of being used for more telecoms traffic. It also had a strong position in internet service provision for businesses. Last month ITG announced plans to build a pan-European communications network, with the aim of becoming an "international business-to-business internet service provider". Analysts said the company had suffered in comparison with Freeserve, the UK's leading internet service provider, which enjoys a much higher rating.
