Yo Ralph: Gold Institute Annual Report:

Washington, 8/18/99

AIDS epidemic sweeping through the SA mines is having a negative effect on production. 1998 pdt 15 million oz, down 5% from 97 and 2% less than forecast one year ago. If trend continues pdt will be down to 12 m oz by 2002.

Australian papers are saying 50% of SA miners are infected.

Question to CDI, Japanese cobalt buyers and CMR bears:

You keep telling me that AIDS will not effect cobalt production in Zambia. As the AIDS epidemic hit SA several years later than Zambia, and as AIDS is effecting SA gold production, how is Zambian cobalt production spared?

p.s. Ralph, while they are working on that, I have one for you. Why do people want Zambian low nickel cobalt? Do the Australians have trouble separating Ni from Co?

Just wondering.
