The dinner party went extremely well. Stacy's father adored the strawberry salsa. They are incredibly nice people. I knew it would be a good evening when they arrived and Dan, always cute, looked out the window and said, whoa, pen, Stacy's mom is really dressed up..panicking me, as I had on shorts and was barefoot (they were NICE shorts with a linen blouse, but still shorts)so I ran up the stairs to get some shoes at least, and while I was rooting around looking for some white sandals, I looked in the mirror and I had avocado all over my nice linen blouse, so I had to scrub it off. When I came back downstairs, carrying the shoes, Dan was opening the door and I'm standing there with a damn pair of shoes and a big wet spot on the front of me, and she was dressed very nicely, but NOT all dressed up- thank you Dan. We said hello, she had brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and a bottle of wine, and I said, "OH, they're lovely," but I couldn't take everything because I still had the shoes in my hand, which looked pretty stupid, so of course I had to explain that Dan had told me she was dressed up, and I ran to get shoes, but never put them on, because of the avocado, but at least she could she I owned shoes, and she said, "Oh, well, I'll just take mine off." ANd she did.

Which I think was the mark of a truly gracious and wonderful person.
