"Bottom line, as much as it pains me to watch the shenanigans, it's a matter of self preservation to know what's happening in these chats. Since they do create movement in stocks , I want to know where it's coming from and where it might be going."

that is a great point, mark. i actually hadn't thought of it that way. but when i consider the price (in noise, distraction, disgust and "creeping reliance") i'd have to pay for going back, i would opt for letting myself stay ignorant. imo, there are plenty of stocks making plenty of moves for plenty of reasons reported by plenty of sources. <g3> i just get a bad vibe off the whole irc chatroom prospect anymore. and i've found what works for me is staying the hell away.

bwdik!

Mark,

With all due respect this is part of the game, whether it's via internet or at the water cooler, any stock info you get from such, clearly you didn't figure out on your own.

Some are leaders, some are followers but all are ultimately responsible for their own actions.

Also, whose to say that the followers don't bring something to a chat room too.

I don't see how if you blindly follow someone's picks that you don't get hosed. To suggest that the people who follow others picks are irresponsible automatons is a little patronizing don't you think?

For me personally, these 'picks' often provide volatility and liquidity to make a quick trade without being a 'daytrader'. Often they serve to make a significant market out of an issue that ordinarily would receive little or no attention. The fact that bigger hands than mine may be at the card table makes little difference, other than the fact that at least now I know whose playing!

And from a company's perspective, it's no different than any of the Wallstreet rags that run 'stories' on particular stocks.

IMO, It's all beware the messenger!
