<I am aware of the efforts that have been made by Cisco to make sure all of our customers are aware of risks and the solutions that would be appropriate for them. Fortunately the number of routing nodes in the internet infrastructure is relatively small compared to the total number of networking devices connected to the internet and so those that would be in the critical traffic paths are easily identifiable.>

Jorj, I agree that Cisco is doing everything that they can. But, at the same time ... what I see ... is that there are certain things that they have no control over.

Here's the weak link. Customers. And, also that supply chain. Telecomms. Utilities.

You're doing everything right. But, is the customer following Cisco's recommendations on a timely basis? Supply chain? Telecomms? Utilities? Who knows? I don't. I hope they are.

When push comes to shove, none of us will know how this turns out ... until after the first of the year. Too many unknown variables.

<This at least encourages the connection that the non-compliant boxes that are identified on Cisco's website are in critical points in the internet infrastructure. There is clearly no substantiation to this offered and it is this that I consider "sensationalistic".>

Then make sure someone at Cisco follows up on this for clarification. Reporters rarely do any type of investigative reporting these days, and so many don't understand technical issues.

<An analogy would be that the roads and highways have all had their earthquake reinforcements, but it would be tough to guarantee that every driveway has been reinforced.>

The "earthquake" analogy has been also used by our government ... prepare for 3-days ... like you would for a winter storm, hurricane or earthquake.

In light of what's gone on with Turkey, and their earthquake ... I expect that analogy won't be used as frequently anymore.
