Nice find, D. I wouldn't have sold all. . . this is a long-termer until Spring '00. At some point, we have to just select which format we think will win and go with it. ADBL seems to have the books-on-tape market wrapped up and is the preferred format via the internet. LQID has the lead on encoded CD quality music delivery. . and now encoded Liquid Video. . . and 12 manufacturers are building portable players, similar to the Rio. . but for the Liquid format. Those that I think will suffer this year include RNWK [after some big pops]. . .MPPP [not the maker of MP3]. . . GP3 format. . the SDMI compliant version of MP3, where the user pays for the music before downloading. . . Diamond Multimedia [DIMD] is phasing out MP3 players in favor of GP3 players called RioPort for Christmas. These should do quite well as VO's UMG [Universal Music Group], the world's largest record label by a long shot, has embraced this format and agreed to give access to their catalog. . . the world's largest. A.T. and T.'s A2B will be a loser, but I believe T will recognize that THIS YEAR. . .SOON. . .and buy up a leader. I believe that they will purchase Liquid Audio via their Liberty Digital [TUNE] unit. T recognizes the potential revenue stream in music delivery via the internet, perhaps more than anyone. . . LQID and TUNE makes sense. TUNE owns DMX, which is already the largest provider of music to commercial establishments. . in the world Lucent and Microsoft are working on their own version music player. . .but they are patterned after MP3, which is already on its way out, due to poor sound quality from its audio compression . . and due to lack of support from major record labels. MP3 and all clones of it will continue to exist, but only for listening to unknown garage bands and unauthorized recordings [illegal pirating] of music that has not been broadcast, purchased or rented. Others are racing to come up with formats, but the first there with the right stuff will be the winner, in my opinion. I believe the winner's list will include LQID, TUNE, DIMD and ADBL. I will continue to add these on dips as the year rolls on. Rande Is
