Healtheon and HealthPartners Connect to Improve Electronic Claims Processing
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Healtheon Corporation (Nasdaq: HLTH - news), a leading Internet healthcare services provider and e-commerce company for healthcare, and HealthPartners, one of Minnesota's largest not-for-profit health maintenance organizations, today announced an agreement for HealthPartners to use Healtheon(TM) Practice, an Internet-based service, to process medical claims and data electronically. This partnership will allow Minnesota providers to reduce errors and costs associated with paper-based claims.
As previously announced, Healtheon and WebMD agreed in May to merge to form Healtheon/WebMD, the first end-to-end provider of healthcare information and services.
The added efficiency and accuracy that computer-based processing affords will provide HealthPartners and health care providers with significant cost and timesavings. Healtheon currently processes 4.25 million transactions monthly for Minnesota physicians, healthcare providers, insurers and health-related businesses.
''HealthPartners has long been a leader in pursuing electronic connectivity. Our providers and hospitals have always appreciated our willingness to help them save time and money,'' said Scott Aebischer, HealthPartners' vice-president of Network Management.
''This is the first phase of our relationship, designed by Healtheon and HealthPartners to offer mission-critical administrative capabilities over the Internet. This regional focus on the Minnesota healthcare market, with its technical advances and extensive electronic relationships, is an example of Healtheon's vision and business strategy nationwide,'' said Steve Curd, chief operating officer for Healtheon.
