Any citizen who believes that a critical, skeptical, probing press is essential to the smooth operation of a democracy should pray that a Republican gets elected in 2000. That is the only thing that will get them energized to do their job - keeping the politicians honest.

I hope all the Republican presidential aspirants are smart enough not think of George W's treatment by the press as an opportunity for themselves. It is precisely what is in store for whomever appears to be able to kick Algor's ass in 2000.

<<On the other hand, since the end of the war, it is reported by sources inside Kosovo that 130,000 Serbs have fled their homes, 150 Serbs have been killed, 200 Serbs have been kidnaped, and 40 Serbian Orthodox Christian churches have been damaged, destroyed or bombed. New York Times reporter Chris Hedges is saying that the Muslim terrorist Kosovo Liberation Army is taking control, right under the noses of NATO and the U.N.>>

This is not good. I can see the Russians joining the Serbs and going after the KLA. If so I hope NATO stays out of it.
