Sale of 497,271 tonnes of Palladium. Subject to congressional approval possibly in September, the U. S. Defense Logistics Agency will sell an additional 497,271 tonnes of palladium, which is all of its remaining inventory in the Defense National Stockpile. (Story .20170) crbindex.com

Palladium prices remain robust.---- Asia Precious Metals Review: Palladium recovers from overnight dips Tokyo--Dec 16--Spot palladium Thursday recovered some from overnight losses Thursday in Asia, as Tokyo Commodity Exchange palladium futures rebounded from Wednesday's closing levels despite a lack of follow-through buying capping prices again in the afternoon, dealers said. Profit-taking weighed on platinum, while gold grew weaker despite overnight gains on the absence of buyers in Asia, they said. (Story .2200) And Russian agencies continue internal debate over control and revenue from precious metal export policies.---- Russian central bank head vows continued activity in gold market Berlin--Dec 15--Russian central bank governor Viktor Gerashchenko said Wednesday that Russia will continue to be active in the gold market as Russia is a gold producing nation. He refused to give details of Russia's plans for gold sales next year. He also said that Russia had not yet decided which candidate for new managing director of the International Monetary Fund it would support. (Story .19226) While Russian government tightens control and increases export duty on precious metals.---- Increases in Russian metal export duties go into effect Moscow--Dec 16--Tuesday's ruling by the Russian government doubling the export duty for copper and nickel to 10% and increasing the duty for silver, platinum and other precious metals to 6.5%, took effect Thursday, a government spokeswoman said. The duty for zinc and zinc alloys was also doubled to 10%.
