Dell to create 800 Irish jobs by year-end

DUBLIN, Aug 19 (Reuters) - U.S. computer systems company Dell Computer Corp said on Thursday it would create a total of 800 new jobs at two of its Irish sites by year-end.

Dell said around 500 new jobs would be created at its manufacturing base in Limerick, in the southwest, and 300 at its sales and support centre in Bray, south of Dublin.

The recruitment drive was part of a scheme announced last year to increase its Irish workforce by 3,000 over a five-year period, Dell said in a statement.

Dell, the third largest company operating in Ireland, employs 4,000 people at its three sites, two of which are located in Limerick. A fourth site, again in Limerick, is currently under construction.

John Legere, Dell Europe, Middle East and Africa division president, said Ireland remained critical to the success of the division with Limerick providing all product for the entire European region.
