We didn't get a chance to whale-watch, we were going to do it the last day, as we were in St. John, were thinking of going down to the coast near Grand Manaan, but it rained heavily and was very foggy. Maybe we could have done it anyway, but we didn't bring rain gear. If we go back, I'll have to plan a couple of days for whale-watching, to allow for the weather. One thing I like about Ocean City and Virginia Beach, especially, and also the Gulf Coast, is that the dolphins come in close to the beach to feed at sunrise, and if you get up early you can watch them, dozens of them, playing in the water, while you drink your morning coffee or swim in the surf. My sister, who lives in Baton Rouge, called me and wanted to know if we were going to do the Florida thing this year, maybe over Labor Day weekend. Usually that's not a good idea, but Labor Day is so late this year, most kids will already be back in school, so maybe it's do-able. The thought of another 900 mile drive isn't fun, though. Yet, I still haven't swum in the ocean this year. We were hoping that the hype for Parlee Beach wasn't just hype, but I think it was. Admittedly it was a chilly day when we went there, but the water was icy. Some Canadians there told us that the water got warm on warm days because it was shallow. I said, well, we'd read a lot of places that the water was the warmest north of Virginia Beach, and they insisted that it was much, much warmer than Cape Cod or Maine, probably correctly. I said, yeah, but there's Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey it's not warmer than, and they looked non-comprehending. Even if it had been warm it still would have been kinda muddy, not at all Thalassa. It smelled like bog, not salt. Not to knock it, and maybe it would have been better off Prince Edward Island, all we were going by was guide books.
