To buy or not to buy?

I've been thinking about an investment in T since I feel it may be a sleeping giant. Right now the price seems pretty cheap, at 30% off it's highs. The question is, will T's potential show its face or not?

It is no doubt that the future in communications is in data, and it just so happens that some of this data may be voice. T has been investing heavily in cable access, but will this be the future? I tend to think that cable Internet connections may be the means by which many Internet users will connect to the Internet in the next 5 - 10 years.

In fact right now, I'm connected to the Internet via cable at my home right now. It sure is much much faster than my old dial up account, but it is not the utopian connection I had hoped for. Video is still to slow, and the network seems to stall for periods here and there. I think the utopian connection comes more in the form of fiber, but most seem to think that will take a while before it reaches individual homes.

So, if T connects America to the Internet via cable will that be enough? Will some other co. be able to provide fiber connections instead? Basicly I would like to know if others out there think T is a good investment in the data infrastructure of the future, and why?

Thanks,

Guy
