Radim, while I agree with you, it is a simple fact that new businesses have to cajole the first customers to have a few recorded contracts and at least a small history of customer satisfaction before the next round of customers. Small initial successes lead to bigger and bigger successes. Sun Microsystems had a hell of a time selling their first machine. In fact after the customer turned down their quote, the founder Chawla asked to see the customer one more time in the lobby and said "Please take it for free" and give us references after you are satisfied with it. You already know the rest of the story.
