No statistics, sorry. My perception, only. And we were only in a few places in Canada, Fredericton, Moncton, Halifax, Sydney and Port something-or-other by the Canso Causeway. As for "why," I hypothesize that smoking is just out of style in certain places, perhaps as a result of social pressure. Interestingly, in the U.S. it's fashionable among Generation X to smoke, if you go to a place where the kids go, and smoking is allowed, there are a lot of smokers. (The kids with all the things pierced.) And I notice that blue-collar people and Asians seem to smoke more, too, around here. I share office space with people who smoke, and people who come to my office frequently comment on it. As for the room, we were in a non-smoking room, on a non-smoking floor, even. It wasn't just our room, the kid's room (we booked two) was worse, they let me have the one that was a little better.
