In the ebay case, ebay was using the Sun servers beyond their capacity. The WCOM case was not a similar sitation. The equipment was not operating as spec'd.

Now you are correct, WCOM should not blame LU and should indeed not distribute or comment that it was in any way a LU failure. But, as the vendor of the products that failed, LU should certainly claim to have identified a failure and is actively/visibly working to correct it. Of course this doesn't do much for LU in the eyes of the public, but it shows a lot to stockholders, and more importantly it demonstrates to WCOM and other LU customers that LU takes customer satisfaction first and will do anything possible to be sure that LU customers to not lose their customers due to product failures....no matter what the cause.
