- with that many people watching the news, you will sometimes get a minute or two lead on stocks that are reacting to hot news.
- it can give you an idea where the herd (moooooo!) is going. >

Both of the above are valid reasons. I guess for me, I see the chat rooms as "noise" and filtering out something worth looking into takes time and that time takes away from my analysis of other trades I may be looking at. The down side of having so many people watching news, etc. is that there is so much possible "noise" that one can experience information overload. And we both know trading impulsively can lead one to the poor house if one blindly jumps into "news" trades.
