not true...they always have a choice. we could easily be fobbed off with a statement about the Fed's vigilance and then they wait on the economic data coming in until october. don't forget, the beige book was still going on about no widespread inflationary pressures being discernible and there was a rumor going around that foreign central bankers were petitioning the Fed not to get too tight around the time of the last FOMC meeting. what's more, credit spreads have widened so much that they may consider holding back because of that.
