While cable modem technology currently is cheaper and more readily available than digital subscriber lines, a recent report indicates that DSL is working its way up to become the world's high-speed Internet connection of choice. According to a recent report released by Cahners In-Stat Group, worldwide ADSL(asymmetric DSL) modem shipments grew 59 percent sequentially in the second quarter of 1999. By the end of the year, modem shipments are expected to exceed 1 million.
