Agree, Gottfried, but it is pretty clever. Took a paranoid RDRT long to dream it up. Current WDC shareholders would be overwhelmed by it. Of course, that would be better than dropping into bankruptcy or limping along. They would effectively become a tracking stock for IBM's drive unit, I guess.

It's ludicrous, but fun to think about for a few minutes. As some have said, "the last shall be first."

Here's another one, this time with IBM or SEG buying WDC, from Bloomberg (so it's a "credible" rumor):

Well, with 13 million shares traded, someone obviously believes these things. I hope some kind of consolidation happens soon, though I can't see what on earth Seagate would want with WDC.
